He owns some of the earliest model automobiles ever manufactured — and they’re in perfect condition. In the extraordinary collection of Indian-born billionaire businessman Sudhir Choudhrie, one will find, for example, a 1900-model Cadillac 1900 and another Cadillac made in 1902. Another is a 1906 Rover. This latter specimen was brought to India by a British manager of a tea estate. Consider the amazing fact that Choudhrie has a fully-restored and perfectly drivable Darracq 12hp Type V, a rare French model that was built in 1914. One must see this gem to believe it.
That’s just for starters.
At last count, there were 37 vintage automobiles in the collection of Sudhir Choudhrie. They are currently kept in a vast garage in Delhi where a crew of seven mechanics lovingly maintains them. Some media observers call it the most extraordinary collection of restored classics on planet earth. Sudhir Choudhrie was born in Delhi and grew up to become a self-made billionaire, first in the import-export sector. He later diversified his pursuits to many other industries. Choudhrie is perhaps most noted for his creation of the Magnum International Trading Company in 1974 a firm that and still thrives today. He is also a principal founder of London’s C&C Alpha Group, a premier private equity firm that is among the most successful in the United Kingdom. From investing in aviation to running shoes, Choudhrie has done it all.
He brings the same drive and passion to his hobby of vintage car collection as he does to business. Sudhir Choudhrie is known to go to enormous lengths to restore cars from a bygone era back to pristine condition. Work on a single model can take as long as 10 years. The collection of Sudhir Choudhrie is not on public display at this time. He has plans to do so in the future, however.
